GEOFF DUNCAN
With an eclectic musical palette and an infectious positivity, New Zealand-born producer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist Geoff Duncan (aka Duncan Sparks) is always looking to create something new.
“I love such a huge range of music, from soundtracks, to Top 40 pop, to epic rock bands and hip hop, to jazz and folk. I’m always trying to find an interesting relationship between unusual groups of sounds, and try to create something that evokes a real tangible feeling” he says.
This attitude of creative risk-taking has led him from New Zealand, to Australia, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Canada, Sweden, and finally to Nashville, where he writes and produces genre-bending music as his alter-ego Duncan Sparks.
As a writer and producer he’s worked with many different artists and writers, including crafting pop gems such as “Thinking About You” & “Body Talk” with pop wunderkind Andreas Moss, cinematic sync tunes like “Army” with licensing powerhouse Zayde Wolf, and spooky voodoo-blues songs like “Dark Side” for sync mastermind Sam Tinnesz.
His work has generated millions of streams, appeared in several Billboard charts, won numerous awards, and aired on spots for ESPN, MLB, MTV, Samsung and UbiSoft, among others.
MOST INFLUENTIAL ALBUM
LOVE OVER GOLD | DIRE STRAITS
Wow, this is so hard!! I love so many records which have influenced my music over the years. When I was about 11 my older brother sat me down, turned off the lights and made me listen to this album, in the dark, with the volume up really loud. My father had a pretty epic stereo and I was swept away by the sound. The 14 minute-plus opening track ‘Telegraph Road’ had such an amazing intro and the whole record has this beautiful tone and feeling to it. I think it only has 5 songs on the whole album but it made me start wondering about sounds, and the feeling music can create. I still enjoy wondering about those things!
