GARLAND RIVERS

Garland Rivers is both a composer and recording artist. Originally from Northwest Ontario, Canada, he now works and lives near Nashville, Tennessee. Rivers’ approach to songwriting is that of a filmmaker and director; melodies and lyrics are informed by visuals that sometimes don’t yet exist. Growing up in a family of musicians, photographers and public speakers played a key role in the development of young Garland Rivers. (His grandfather directed music in big tent revivals through the 1960s). In 2011, Rivers original score “Yesterday” won an addy for sound design and composition.  In 2020 he composed music for a performance art film “The Light We Share” and finished his first solo E.P. “TØPKNØT.” Rivers is now creating music for major brands in TV and advertising.

MOST INFLUENTIAL ALBUM

RARE GREAT FILM MUSIC JOHN WILLIAMS

This was the first album I ever owned. Given to me by my parents, I recall listening to it hundreds of times. Now, looking back as an artist, I can see how those epic melodies influenced the fabric of what would become my style and musical expression — and perhaps part of the reason why I’m so drawn to creating music for visual storytelling.
